Five on Friday 5.25.12

Five on Friday 5.25.12

Happy Friday! Today’s Five on Friday features more bright colors. Are you tired of them yet? I’m definitely not. One of my favorites things about fashion trends right now is that everything goes. I think you can pull off any trend, look, or style you want. And, that is fun. I also put up one of my favorite tv shows, Lipstick Jungle. This show isn’t made anymore, but I rediscovered it on Netflix. It has a great energy, and I like to have it on in the background when I’m burning the midnight oil and working on creative projects. It’s really motivating, and those ladies have some good makeup!

Five on Friday

Here's my 5 on Friday this week:
First of all, like I said in this week's Makeover Monday post, I am obssessed with bright red lipstick, and here is the shade that I'm trying out. I love all of my own shop's products, but I thought I would try out this shade that is a sheer orange-red. I do love it!
I am also loving this gold starfish necklace & earrings-it feels beachy.
This month, my book club is reading The Elegance of the Hedgehog. I have started it, but it hasn't really grabbed me yet. I'm going to keep trying.
I'm loving all of my new doTerra essential oils. Citrus Bliss is one of my favorites because of its uplifting, fresh scent. Hopefully, I'll be carrying some of these in my shop soon.
And, lastly, I am coveting these yellow peep-toe wedge shoes from Cole Haan. I have a question for you: adorable or impractical? I can't decide if I could really pull them off or not. I'd sure like to try ;)

Makeover Monday

Today's Makeover Monday features a familiar face...Stacy Jacobson, my friend who I'm realizing is as big a makeup junkie as me.  You've seen Stacy on Channel 12 as a reporter, and more recently as an anchor.  She's always up for a new look and isn't afraid to wear bold & bright colors, so I knew she'd be perfect for this new look that I wanted to try.  I am never the first one to embrace a new trend, but even I can't deny that the bright orangey-red matte lip is finally growing on me.  In fact, I myself have been wearing a dark eye and pale lip for more years than I care to admit, and I'm getting ready to make a big change and try to rock this lip myself.

First, the inspiration...
Here is Stacy's before...
And, here are her afters...

To achieve this look, I tried to use a lighter than usual undereye concealer.  In fact, I did concealing as usual, matching it to her face, but then I went back and tried to lighten it up a bit.  I also used some orangey and then pink blushes to really brighten the cheeks.  I used a white shimmery highlighter on the inside corners or eyes and under the brows, as well as on the top of the cheeks.
I also worked in this order: undereye concealer, eyelid primer, foundation, more highlight under eyes, cheeks, lips, and then eyes.  For eyes, I stayed very neutral, with a pale yellow base, twig (taupey-brown) contour and then mixed a little mink (shimmery copper) on lid and into contour, which stayed pretty light and neutral on Stacy.  I pressed sable (black) shadow into her upper & lower lash line, but kept the line thin.  The focus is really on the lips and then the pop of color on the cheeks.
We tried to go for the slightly disgruntled pouty lipped pose as seen on the model above, but Stacy is just too smiley and not enough disgruntled ;)
This is a great look for summer!  I encourage you to step out of your comfort zone, whatever that may be, and give this a try!

Thanks, Stacy!  If you haven't already, don't forget to like Stacy's news page on facebook.  She is great about keeping her loyal viewers/readers updated frequently on breaking news!

Five on Friday

I'll be the first to admit that I'm an internet junkie.  I love that I can find visual inspiration all over the internet.  I have no excuse to feel secluded in rural WV when I can keep up on all the good stuff that's out there.  If you're not familiar with blogs, a lot of people publish weekly series posts, kind of like my Makeover Mondays posts.  So, I'm going to start doing a "Five on Fridays" series.  I'm just going to be sharing 5 things, personal and professional that are either catching my eye, inspiring me in some way, or just new cool stuff that I've found.  Enjoy!

1.  Tired eyes? Use peach eyeliner  gloProfessional shared this on their facebook page this week, and I'm a big fan of video tutorials.  Just discovered this peach eyeliner at my glo training last month, and will definitely be ordering it on the next order I place.  At the training, Kate used it to outline lips when she did the red lip/Marilyn Monroe/vixen look.

2.  Lisa Leonard continues to inspire me with all of her blog posts, photos, and What I Wore Wednesdays, which is another blog movement about not getting caught up in a frumpy sweatpants habit.  No judgment, I have just always felt like I either need to get myself dressed and ready because it's a slippery slope for me to just live in my pj's all day.  Lisa has been rocking some red skinny jeans and leopard print pants lately.  Right on!

3.  I have two current gift with purchase promotions from Eminence.  I still have a few strawberry hyaluronic acid serums with a free reusable strawberry bag.  Super cute!
The other GWP is a free 2 oz. coconut cleanser when you purchase any two of the new Age Corrective products w/ natural retinol alternative.
4.  I am obssessed with bright red poppy this season.  I want to wear it for shirts, pants, and shoes.

5.  And, speaking of poppy, I found this grouping of images.  Swoon!

Makeover Monday

Today's mother's day edition Makeover Monday features a friend from the Bridgeport Farmer's Market, Patricia Espinoza.  Patricia works with Chef Dale, and she definitely has a green thumb.  She grows delicious vegetables and fruits and beautiful hearty plants, herbs, and flowers.
Here is Patricia's before...

She wanted a very natural look, so we stayed with neutral colors and a flattering lip shade.  I used the metallic smoky eye kit (beautiful, shimmery browns).
Here are some afters...
She was really pleased with this look, because she didn't really want to look overdone.  I like how the pressed base foundation evened out her skin tone, and makes her look fresh, natural, & radiant!

You will find Patricia at the Bridgeport Farmers Market next Sunday, May 13th (Mother's Day!!) at the new outdoor location, Building 600 at Charles Pointe.  She promises me she will have lots of geraniums in an assortment of beautiful colors.  I can't wait to pick up my Mother's Day present there.  See you at the market!
