Makeover Monday

Today's Makeover Monday features a familiar face...Stacy Jacobson, my friend who I'm realizing is as big a makeup junkie as me.  You've seen Stacy on Channel 12 as a reporter, and more recently as an anchor.  She's always up for a new look and isn't afraid to wear bold & bright colors, so I knew she'd be perfect for this new look that I wanted to try.  I am never the first one to embrace a new trend, but even I can't deny that the bright orangey-red matte lip is finally growing on me.  In fact, I myself have been wearing a dark eye and pale lip for more years than I care to admit, and I'm getting ready to make a big change and try to rock this lip myself.

First, the inspiration...
Here is Stacy's before...
And, here are her afters...

To achieve this look, I tried to use a lighter than usual undereye concealer.  In fact, I did concealing as usual, matching it to her face, but then I went back and tried to lighten it up a bit.  I also used some orangey and then pink blushes to really brighten the cheeks.  I used a white shimmery highlighter on the inside corners or eyes and under the brows, as well as on the top of the cheeks.
I also worked in this order: undereye concealer, eyelid primer, foundation, more highlight under eyes, cheeks, lips, and then eyes.  For eyes, I stayed very neutral, with a pale yellow base, twig (taupey-brown) contour and then mixed a little mink (shimmery copper) on lid and into contour, which stayed pretty light and neutral on Stacy.  I pressed sable (black) shadow into her upper & lower lash line, but kept the line thin.  The focus is really on the lips and then the pop of color on the cheeks.
We tried to go for the slightly disgruntled pouty lipped pose as seen on the model above, but Stacy is just too smiley and not enough disgruntled ;)
This is a great look for summer!  I encourage you to step out of your comfort zone, whatever that may be, and give this a try!

Thanks, Stacy!  If you haven't already, don't forget to like Stacy's news page on facebook.  She is great about keeping her loyal viewers/readers updated frequently on breaking news!

Makeover Monday

Today's mother's day edition Makeover Monday features a friend from the Bridgeport Farmer's Market, Patricia Espinoza.  Patricia works with Chef Dale, and she definitely has a green thumb.  She grows delicious vegetables and fruits and beautiful hearty plants, herbs, and flowers.
Here is Patricia's before...

She wanted a very natural look, so we stayed with neutral colors and a flattering lip shade.  I used the metallic smoky eye kit (beautiful, shimmery browns).
Here are some afters...
She was really pleased with this look, because she didn't really want to look overdone.  I like how the pressed base foundation evened out her skin tone, and makes her look fresh, natural, & radiant!

You will find Patricia at the Bridgeport Farmers Market next Sunday, May 13th (Mother's Day!!) at the new outdoor location, Building 600 at Charles Pointe.  She promises me she will have lots of geraniums in an assortment of beautiful colors.  I can't wait to pick up my Mother's Day present there.  See you at the market!

Makeover Monday: a video tutorial

I have been wanting to do my own makeup video tutorial forever.  I didn't have any other makeovers lined up for today, so I decided to do my own on Sunday afternoon since it was a laid-back day, and I had time to do it.  Check it out, and please give me some feedback.  Do you like the video tutorials?  Do you want me to do my own from time-to-time?  Do you prefer when I do the photo-heavy makeovers on other people.  Let me know & enjoy!

Makover Monday: A Tutorial

Today's Makeover Monday features Sharon Minigh, a technology integration specialist, and one of my best friends.  She works full-time and is a mom to a small toddler (who is adorable, by the way).  She can pull off a lot of looks, but today we went for a winged eye/red lip combination.  At the gloMinerals training I just attended, Kate McCarthy showed us this look as an evening/going-out look, and as an alternative to a smoky eye.
Today, I am going to show some step-by-step photos, so this post will be photo-heavy.

Her before...

Next, I used glo's eye primer, which is great to help shadow stay on all day, and golden undereye concealer.  A new tip that I learned is to apply these two products with the eye texture brush.  It goes on so light, it's an awesome way to gently apply and blend these creamy products.
Here she is with just undereye concealer...
Golden medium is the most popular color of glo Pressed Base foundation, and it worked great with Sharon's color & skin tone.  Here she is with her undereye concealer, eye primer, and foundation...
Used the eye base brush to put diamond eyeshadow (shimmering white) all over the eyelid-you want to sort of press the shadow into the lid and then blend it across with the brush.
Used the creased brush to apply kona shadow (a dark, matte brown) into the crease of the eyelid, then blended is slightly into the bottom vee/outside corner of the lashline.

Started working on the winged black eyeliner.  Here's where patience is a virtue.  I started on the outside corner of the eye and used the black precision eyeliner pencil.  I tried to keep the line as thin as possible.  Then, I drew a thin line straight out from where the top of the eye and the bottom of the eye meet.  I continued working back across the eye to the inner corner of the top lid.

Go back to the "winged-out" part and shape your curve up.  Again, patience is a good thing, because you may have to use a Q-tip with some eye makeup remove to help sculpt this winged look.  You also want to look at yourself square in the mirror and make sure that they are even.
For the undereye liner, try to line right up to the edge of the water line of the lash and actually blend a little up and onto the water line (the part of the inner rim of your eye)

I used nectar blush, a light shimmery neutral to keep the cheeks muted.  You'll see, the focus is definitely on the eyes and the lips.

the look is starting to come together...
For the lips, I lined and filled them in with the lip filler pencil.  Then I used vixen lipstick, a rich, ruby red...

and topped it off with poppy lipgloss, a sheer, bright true red gloss.

Add some coats of mascara and Voila!  A very glammed up, superstar mommy!

For some special touches, I did do some highlighting/illuminating at the top of the cheekbones and again under the eyebrows/on the browbone.

All I can say is, "Wow!  She looks so awesome!"  She can totally pull off this look.  And, I had so much fun doing it.  Don't be surprised (or frightened) if you see me trying to pull this look off in the middle of the day and in front of small children ;)

Thank you Sharon!

Makeover Monday

Today's Makeover Monday features Stacy Jacobson, news reporter & anchor from WBOY Channel 12.  In today's photos, we decided to depart from the great bright, spring colors we had tried and do a dark, mysterious smoky eye with a nude lip, taking a cue from Kim Kardashian-who may not win an Academy Award any time soon, but who certainly has a great makeup artist and killer bone structure ;)

Here is Stacy's before...

And here are her afters...

I think this is a great alternative to her professional look, and it's perfect for going out!
Thank you, Stacy.  There are still many looks we can try out!

Makeover Monday

The feature of today's Makeover Monday is Andrea Vincent.  Andrea is a Title I teacher/reading specialist/Reading Recovery teacher/all-around reading intervention hero.  She and I went through Reading Recovery training together about 7 years ago, but we first met in our reading specialist graduate program.  Our shared experiences, trainings, and travel have made us pretty tight.  Plus, we have a lot in common.  She works full-time and has a toddler at home.  I know that as a mom it's really fun to get a new look and remember what your life was like before kids :)

Here is Andrea's before...
And here are her afters...

I was inspired by this ad I found at Target, and I wanted to approximate the colors & the look with gloMinerals products.
A close-up of her eyes...

Andrea, you look radiant!

Makeover Monday

The feature of today's Makeover Monday is Debbie Workman.  Debbie and her husband own Touchstone Data Systems, and she is the secretary and treasurer for the Bridgeport Farmers Market.  What I like about Debbie is that you can tell she gets the job done.  I appreciate and respect that in a business woman.  She also has really good taste in music AND food, so that's even more of a bonus, in my opinion.

Here is Debbie's before...

And here are her afters...

This time of year, I'm inspired by the promise of spring, so I try to brighten up faces with brighter cheeks and lips.  Basically, eye colors can stay the same year-round, depending on what colors complement your skin tone, eye color, and despite what some purists say, your outfit.

I used gloMinerals papaya blush

and I blended glo's majestic sienna lip crayon with tahiti lip sheer.

And don't forget, the next Bridgeport Farmers Market is coming up on Sunday, April 1st from 11-2 at the Bridgeport Conference Center at Charles Point.  There are local vendors plus you can enjoy a leisurely brunch while you're there.  I'm planning on doing makeovers there, so please e-mail me if you're interested, and we'll schedule a time.

See you at the market!!

Makeover Monday

The feature of today's Makeover Monday is Jamie Stover, reporter for WBOY Channel 12.
Here is her before...
Can I just say that I love that all of the Channel 12 reporters and anchors I've met and worked with so far have been so well-accessorized!  They all have the best jewelry and accessories.  They always look put-together and business professional.

Here are her afters...

I used neutral browns and copper for her eyeshadow, then a brighter blush on her cheeks, and I talked her into doing a brighter lipstick color for spring.

Thanks, Jamie!

Makeover Monday

The feature of today's Makeover Monday is Kim Freda, Assignment Editor at WBOY Channel 12.  You may not recognize Kim because she works behind the scenes at the station.

Here is her before...

We decided to do an everyday going into evening look.  I love to mix eggplant with kona eyeshadow to create a brownish/plum look.

Ta-Da!  Here are her afters...

Thanks, Kim!!
